Bear Valley Heritage Days

 

  BIG BEAR LAKE- the community of Big Bear Lake announced it will host the Bear Valley Heritage Days. This new event is se for Labor Day weekend holiday, Aug. 30th through Sept. 4th. Centered on Bear Valley’s rich western history, ranching, and the spirit of the cowboy, Bear Valley Heritage Days truly delivers the old west back to Big Bear. Each event at Heritage Days will benefit a local charity including the Bear Valley Historical Society, Los Vaqueros de Las Montanas, and Bear Valley Children’s Charities. During the events, people can take an off-road adventure into Holcomb Valley on Big Bear’s only year round 4-wheel drive tours. Check out some of the pictures of the area:

   The hub of the activities will be at the Convention Center in Big Bear Lake. Below is a calendar of events:

09/3 – A Night at the Starlight Ballroom with Rodney Crowell and the Outsiders

   Heritage Days begins Wednesday, Aug. 30th with Merchant Days. This is a tribute to those diligent business men and women who established trade in the Valley. Big Bear’s business community will be invited to showcase their wares and services to Valley’s residents; the evening is complimentary to both local business owners and attendees. Free admission

   A Night of Luck set’s Friday evening into motion with a fundraiser to benefit the Bear Valley Historical Society. The convention center will be transformed into the infamous “Octagon House” from those renegade days of old with gaming, including roulette wheels, black jack tables, and craps. $35 per person includes $200 in play money, raffles, and live entertainment.

   Saturday continues with in kind with the Wild ill Holcomb’s Mounted Shooting Showdown. Mounted Shooting is the fasted growing equestrian event in the United States. Skills go beyond excellent horsemanship and require perfect5ion in shooting. This event will take place at Los Vaqueros Arena Saturday, Sept. 2nd, with a cash purse and other various prizes awarded to competitors. $3.00 for adults, 10 and over, children 12 and under are Free!

   Sunday’s event also takes place at the Arena and is the Shay Baker Team Penning. Working cows has been and continues t be the way of the American cowboy. Team penning is a subtle dance between the cattle, horse and cowboy. Both the Showdown and Penning events will be fundraisers for one of the Valley’s oldest club, Los Vaqueros de la Montanas. Established in 1946, the club protects, nurtures, and secures the future of horsemanship in the Big Bear Valley. Admission is Free!

   Rounding out Heritage Days festivities, “A Night at the Starlight Ballroom with Rodney Crowell and the Outsiders’, will be a performance featuring Rodney Crowell. Crowell, a Grammy Award winner, is a top recording artist under the Columbia record label. Crowell was also name as Best Male singer/songwriter by Nashville Scene magazine in its ‘Best of 2005’ issue. This will be his only Southern California appearance. Los Angeles-based Merchant’s of Moonshine will open for Crowell. Proceeds from the concert will benefit the Bear Valley Children’s Charities, a non-profit dedicated to improving the lives of children the Big Bear Valley. Tickets sales to this intimate event are limited and a small number of special VIP reserve tickets will be made available. General admission is $40 per person, and VIP passports are available for $150 and include entry to all events, VIP seating at the Rodney Crowell concert, and backstage pass to Rodney Crowell “Meet and Greet”. Tickets go on sale June 30th.
