On the evening of Tuesday, May
6, 2008, the Big Bear Lake Fire Department responded to a report of a
monitored, fire alarm system activation in the 900 block of Cameron
Drive. Upon their arrival, units observed smoke coming from the first
floor of the unoccupied three-story residence, which is approximately
3,000 square feet. Big Bear Lake units arrived before flashover,
meaning prior to the simultaneous ignition of all combustibles within
the fire area.
Firefighters were able to knock
the fire down quickly minimizing fire loss. Additionally, the proper
installation and maintenance of the monitored fire alarm system
significantly helped to reduce the damage sustained to the structure.
The home’s value is approximately $840,000 with estimated losses at
approximately $125,000.
There were no firefighter or
civilian injuries as a result of this fire. The cause of the fire is
still under investigation.
