SB County will auction over 1000 tax-defaulted homes

Treasurer-Tax Collector Dick Larsen announced today that the County will hold its annual auction of tax-defaulted properties through Bid4Assets, the County’s online auction company.  The online auction will open for bidding Saturday, May 16 and close with staggering dates beginning Monday, May 18 through Friday, May 22.  The auction will be available for preview on April 20th at www.MyTaxCollector.com

Starting bid prices for this auction will range from $800 to $195,350.  Tax information, maps and other due diligence material is available for viewing online at www.MyTaxCollector.com.

In a tax sale auction, the minimum bid price for a property is the amount of back taxes owed to the County on the property.  “The benefit of a tax sale auction is that tax-defaulted properties are put back into tax paying status to generate revenue for the county,” Larsen said.  Winning bidders have the opportunity to buy property at a value.  San Bernardino County is one of dozens of counties across the country that contracts with Bid4Assets for their annual tax sales.  Other counties in California include Del Norte, Kern, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Sierra, San Diego, Siskiyou, Fresno, Kings, Merced, Alameda, Santa Cruz and many more.

Bid4Assets has conducted online auctions for San Bernardino County since 2002.  Over 12,000 tax-defaulted properties have been sold for the County through online auctions.  “Our relationship with Bid4Assets has been excellent. Use of their system provided us with a 95% success rate,” Larsen said.
