The Bear Valley Community
Hospital Foundation will present “An Evening with John Grandi & Friends”
for one show only on Saturday, August 9, 2008, 7:00 p.m. at the Big Bear
Lake Performing Arts Center with all proceeds going to the non-profit
Hospital Foundation. Grandi will reprise a variation of his sell-out
show performed last fall as a benefit for the Friends of the Big Bear
Library. Although the format and content of the show will be expanded
to fill the larger venue of the Performing Arts Center, all of the
intimate and charming stories of John’s “larger than life” experiences
will be presented in vivid detail.
This magic evening will be a
very personal experience with John as he tells his tales of a
first-generation Italian who lived from miracle to miracle during the
Depression years, World War II years, New York, the Stage, Big Bands,
California and beyond. John will talk about his amazing life as well
as his upcoming book: “We Had Nothing… but Everything.” A favorite
quote from John is “Not a bit of evidence exists that life has to be
serious.”
A member of the audience at the
Library presentation said, “John, you are a master of delivery – the
voice inflection, the timing, the pace, you have it all honed to a fine
art. Although we grew up in different decades and different
ethnicities, you awoke in my memory scenes from my own childhood, happy
times with my father, my mother, my mother’s parents. These memories
were common to all of us growing up in the United States before and
during the Second World War.”
The Evening with John Grandi
has been expanded to include guest appearances by several friends
including Amber Carpenter, Amanda Fisch, Elena Peavy, Sarge Rachels,
Brett Smith and Ty Warren. John’s long time friend, the talented Beth
Gardner, is directing this expansion of the original evening.
Tickets are $25 in advance, or
