Redlands Symphony Orchestra at the PAC

Conductor Jon Robertson

The Redlands Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Big Bear Lake Performing Arts Center on October 5, 2008 at 2:00 p.m., in a joint presentation by Rotary Club, Arts Council of Big Bear Valley, The Performing Arts Center Foundation and the Hospital Foundation.  ERA Bruin Trojan Realtors will host the intermission.

The Redlands Symphony was founded in 1950 by Edward C. Tritt as an adjunct to the Redlands University School of Music. The Symphony Orchestra's remarkable growth under the baton of Maestro Jon Robertson has amazed critics, delighted audiences and caused the prestigious California Arts Council panel to award their highest "exemplary" rating for seven consecutive seasons. Its panel commented, "This is a remarkable, strong orchestra, boasting fine ensemble playing, attention to detail and a rich, orchestral sound."

Conductor Jon Robertson is now in his twenty-fifth season as conductor and music director of the Redlands Symphony Orchestra. The extraordinary quality of this orchestra is attributable to the blend of devotion he has had for the musicians and his unique artistic vision. Dr. Robertson is currently Dean of Lynn University Conservatory of Music in Boca Raton, Florida. He has also served as Chair of the Music Department and Professor of Conducting/Director of Orchestras at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Dr. Robertson has conducted the Beijing Central Philharmonic in China, the Gavele Symphony in Sweden, the American symphony Orchestra of New York, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra, and the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra.

This is the first time in Big Bear's History that a full 80-piece symphony orchestra will perform, and it offers residents a wonderful opportunity to enjoy an afternoon filled with high caliber entertainment.

Dave Leach, President of the Arts Council, commented, "We hope families will attend, especially those with children taking music lessons.  A Symphony experience at the Performing Arts Center should inspire music students and expose them to a live performance.  It is also very fitting that the first Symphony Orchestra performance in Big Bear Lake takes place during "National Arts and Humanities Month."

Tickets are Adults $35/Senior & Students $30 and are now on sale at the PAC: call (909) 866-4970.
