2008 Summer Concert

The San Bernardino National Forest Association (SBNFA) is pleased to announce it’s third season of summer concert music at the Discovery Center Amphitheater beginning Saturday, May 31 through August 30, 2008 featuring 6 shows plus JazzTrax. The concert series kicks off a summer celebration of the Discovery Center’s 10th anniversary with all proceeds benefiting Forest Aid, an SBNFA series of fund raising events to raise awareness that forest healing has begun through restoration efforts after the October fires.

It’s widely-known that music has great healing power and the Discovery Center is delivering a knockout lineup of talent in its Music and (now) Movies in the Mountains summer series.  All dollars raised will directly recruit and train additional volunteers for the SBNFA’s Great Seeds Restoration Team, help fund the growing of native seedlings at the newly-opened Children’s Forest greenhouse and purchase much-needed supplies and safety equipment.  The Restoration Team is comprised of youth leaders and community volunteers who are executing a very ambitious project plan designed by US Forest Service botanists and Alison Bates, the SBNFA program manager.

What’s new this year? Thursday classic movie nights have been added featuring family films shot in the Big Bear Valley as a location.  Admission is free for Valley residents and visitors to come to the Discovery Center and enjoy three classic family films under the stars on the big screen featuring Dr. Doolittle, Lassie Come Home and Last of the Mohicans.   Gates will open at 7:00 pm; movies will begin at 8:00 pm; and parking will be free.  Popcorn, snacks and soft drinks will be available for sale; donations will be appreciated.  Another big add. . . JazzTrax has moved its entire three-day series to the Discovery Center stage.  Dates are Friday, June 20, through Sunday, June 22.  Tickets are now on sale at www.jazztrax.com.

Season Passes are now on sale at the Discovery Center in the Adventure Outpost to enjoy 6 shows for the price of 4!  Offer ends May 31, 2008.  Season passes include the movie nights and exclude the JazzTrax series.  Adult passes are $55; teens 13-17 are $35; representing a $30 and $20 savings, respectively.  Children 12 and under are free for all events owned by the Discovery Center.  Individual tickets for all 6 shows will go on sale at the Adventure Outpost and online at sbnfa.org beginning May 3, 2008.  Adult prices (18+) are $5, $15 and $20 depending upon the show; teens ages 13-17 are $5 for the season opener and $10 for all other shows; excludes JazzTrax.

Returning to the summer series will be third-year presenting sponsor, Coldwell Banker, Mountain Gallery, Realtors.  In fact, owner Tim Wood’s sponsorship and commitment to bringing family-oriented quality entertainment to the Valley underwrites the free movie nights, offers family-friendly ticket prices and free admission for 12 and under.

Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. for all concert events; concerts begin at 7:00 p.m.  Bill Knick’s Café will feature sandwiches, snacks, soft drinks and a beer and wine bar.  No outside beverages are allowed.  Beach chairs are recommended.  Parking is free.
